Oct. 24, 2016

The city of Rippey has set Friday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 7 as Beggars’ Night. The date was set not to interfere with the Cartober Fest on Oct. 29.

Rippey public library:  Librarian, Katrina Buttler; phone: 515.436.7714; website: www.rippey.lib.ia.us; E-mail: rippeyli@windstream.net

HOURS: Monday 1-6 pm; Tuesday 2-6 pm; Wednesday 3-6 pm; Thursday 2-7 pm; Friday 3-6 pm. Katrina’s Korner: Come party with us Oct. 29, have some fun, eat some good food and go home with a prize or two.

October 29 is approaching very quickly. The Fall Festival and Cartober Fest 2016 is Saturday from 2 to 5 pm, with the Disney movie “Hocus Pocus” showing inside the library at 5:15.

There will be a car show, games, prizes, horseshoe and bean bag tournaments, live bands, crafts for the kids, a barbecue cook-off and a soup and chili cook-off, a bake sale, caramel apples, vendor tables and more. There will also be a raffle for a one-night stay at the Hotel Pattee in Perry and prizes from several area restaurants.

Contact the library to volunteer, make soup, or donate items for the bake sale.

On a sad note, Oct. 29 will also be my last day as librarian for Rippey. I have enjoyed the kids that I see on a regular basis and the parents and grandparents that come in and visit with me. I will miss you all and will be checking in here and there to see how everyone is doing and have a little fun with my new friends.

News in and around Rippey:

Bye Bye Blues met on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the home of Doris Brown. The group enjoyed refreshments furnished by Meladee and Kyle Graven, as well as their mother and grandmother, Eleanor Alex, from Grand Junction. Others attending were Lois McDowell, her daughter Donna Ridnour, and Marilyn Pentico, all of Perry, and Jean Borgeson of Rippey.  The November meeting will be a potluck and the last gathering until the spring of 2017!  There’s just something about sitting around a table, eating tasty goodies, visiting and laughing with friends, that helps relieve the more serious side of life.
